The Sarcoma Trust is inviting proposals for research projects from suitably qualified researchers and specialist treatment centres. This is The Sarcoma Trust’s second call and up to £150,000 is being made available.
The Trustees are interested in funding good quality scientific research which will benefit patients with sarcoma. Although interested in all kinds of research the Trust is in particular seeking projects which fall into one of the following categories.
1) Basic science looking at soft tissue sarcoma (all histological sub-types are applicable including GIST) with a view to understanding the cause, biology, genetic translocations etc and which can lead to the development of new or innovative treatment strategies
2) Development of scientific services which support sarcoma clinical practice with the aim of providing a sustainable quality-controlled clinical service to treatment centres nationally
3) Development of innovative approaches to patient care relevant to soft tissue sarcoma patients of any age which can be disseminated and implemented in specialist adult, TYA or peadiatric treatment centres
4) Retrospective studies (including case series), meta-analyses and systematic reviews which can inform clinical practice
This call is open until 10th September 2010. All applications will be peer reviewed by a multi-disciplinary panel and the Trustees anticipate contacting successful applicants in early December 2010.
